Glideways, Flyways and Stepping Stones is a partnership between the Great Eastern Ranges (GER) and WIRES to support wildlife still recovering from the Black Summer bushfires across south-eastern Australia.
Through the project, GER’s regional partners are being supported to work with local landholders, Landcare and community groups to roll out post fire activities in the Greater Blue Mountains, Bega Valley and Nymboida.
These include:
- protecting, expanding and reconnecting vital habitats
- installing nest boxes and carving new hollows to replace lost homes for wildlife
- managing key threats such as weeds
- citizen science wildlife surveys
- building landholder capacity and awareness
The two year project is supporting over 22 species of wildlife impacted by the Black Summer bushfires, including endangered and vulnerable native animals such as koalas, greater gliders, spotted-tail quolls, masked owls and grey-headed flying-foxes.
