GER’s mission of bringing people together to link and protect habitats is wholly reliant on the many individuals and organisations who generously give their time, money and resources in support of our work. In the course of giving such support some may supply personal details to us. The following policy was developed to protect your privacy and explain how we collect, store and use personal information.
In the course of our work we only collect personal details necessary to provide you with information (about membership, conservation activities, or campaigns), goods (such as books) or other services (such as membership), or receipts for these.
GER only collects information whenever a partner organisation, member, supporter, employee or volunteer supplies us with personal details either in person, by phone or online. These details may include your name, address (postal and email), telephone number, banking and credit card details.
GER staff involved in specific projects also collect and use information. They may contact you to invite you to be involved in project work, or to participate in events or information networks.
How we hold information
Information that we collect about you is only held as long as it is needed to provide you with the service or information required, or until our legal obligation to hold information ends. We are legally required to keep records of all transactions that involve payment to us for seven years. We store such records securely in a location that may be accessed only by authorised staff. Access to our member and supporter databases is restricted to relevant staff and directors.
GER publishes a regular e-newsletter in electronic form, as well as periodic circulars regarding activities, events or project updates. Members and other recipients may choose to have their names and addresses removed from the distribution of any or all of these publications.
We will not give your personal information to any outside organisations for marketing or other purposes unless you permit us to do so. We may, however, be legally obliged to provide information about you in certain circumstances.
