Dr Patrick Norman is a Research Fellow with Griffith University’s Climate Action Beacon, specialising in forest ecology, remote sensing, and spatial analysis to understand human impacts on ecosystems and inform conservation and climate adaptation strategies.
He holds a PhD from Griffith University and has contributed extensively to national and international research initiatives, producing policy-relevant insights on habitat connectivity, forest condition, and climate resilience. Pat also plays a key applied role in large-scale conservation practice through his ongoing work with the Great Eastern Ranges (GER) initiative.
As Principal Conservation Analyst—hosted through GER’s partnership with Griffith University—Pat leads and supports advanced spatial analyses and decision-support tools that guide connectivity conservation across eastern Australia. His work has included developing nationally significant habitat connectivity models and interactive mapping platforms to help practitioners identify priority corridors, assess landscape resilience, and target restoration efforts for maximum biodiversity and climate outcomes.
Together, his academic and applied roles position Dr Norman at the intersection of research and on-ground conservation, translating cutting-edge geospatial science into practical tools and strategies that strengthen ecological connectivity and support evidence-based environmental decision-making.
