The Great Eastern Ranges strongly supports the Uluru Statement from the Heart and its call for a First Nations Voice in our Constitution as a critical step in Australia’s journey towards meaningful reconciliation.
We also support the principles of the Voice agreed with the First Nations Referendum Working Group and the spirit of Makarrata in which they have been made.
Later this year, Australians will have a chance to have their say as to whether an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice should be enshrined in our Constitution. We do not regard a ‘yes’ vote in this referendum as a political decision, but as the ethical, right and only way forward for Australia.
The Great Eastern Ranges is therefore proud to wholeheartedly support a First Nations Voice that enables all Australians to walk together to create a better future.
In this spirit of reconciliation, GER is committed to developing a Reconciliation Action Plan with close guidance and in collaboration with Aboriginal representatives. We will also be striving to foster partnerships with Aboriginal organisations built on a foundation of trust and respect, and co-design projects that blend traditional knowledge and western science the right-way.
