Tandi Spencer-Smith is the Head of Communications and Partnerships for Great Eastern Ranges Ltd. She is a respected executive with over fifteen years of broad experience in the environmental not-for-profit, corporate and government sectors and holds a Master of Science in Biodiversity Conservation. Her lifelong passion for the environment and strong belief in the Great Eastern Ranges initiative’s vision and work have seen her supporting the organisation in various capacities since 2013. This included serving as a Board Member from 2019-2022.
Prior to taking on her current role, Tandi served as the Director of the Australian Committee for IUCN. She continues to contribute to the network as an active member of IUCN’s World Commission on Protected Areas, Species Specialist Commission, Commission on Communication and Education, IUCN Connectivity Conservation Specialist Group and IUCN #NatureForAll.
Tandi has served as the lead author and editor for two Australian Committee for IUCN publications and helped to develop Our Knowledge, Our Way, in caring for Country, a set of best practice guidelines for sharing and strengthening of Indigenous knowledge produced by NAILSMA and CSIRO. She also wrote and designed a NSW curriculum-linked teaching package, Wildlife Corridors for Kids, alongside GER’s Kanangra-Boyd to Wyangala partnership and local teachers, and has had stories published in dozens of Australian and international publications.
She has broad experience in conservation and ecological restoration, science communications and marketing, community engagement, strategic planning, operations, and program and business development.
